MUIR TO ILLUMINATE BLACKPOOL WITH ITS 'BIGGEST HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN YEARS'

A TRANSFORMATIONAL new 44-home development is set to boost Blackpool and provide a housing lifeline to the iconic seaside town.

BlackpoolMuir Group Housing Association is promising regeneration of Blackpool’s Watson Road area will help families overcome their housing need as it launches its ‘largest single development in years’

Diggers are expected to roll onto the former industrial site in June after preparatory works began earlier this year.

All 44 homes will be made available for Affordable Rent.

“Our biggest single housing development in recent history represents a huge commitment to people and families in Blackpool,” Muir’s Executive Director of Operations, Sam Scott (below) said.

Sam Scott“Blackpool is in much need of quality affordable housing and this development shows Muir’s commitment to help deliver new homes to the town.

“These Muir properties will provide people with the stability and security they need.”

The exciting new development will consist of 27 two-bedroom and 15 three-bedroom houses, as well as two two-bedroom bungalows.

Cllr Christine Wright, Cabinet Member for Housing at Blackpool Christine Wright Council (right), said: “This scheme will make a positive contribution to meeting affordable local housing needs.

“It will deliver new quality family homes that are the most sought after in social housing.

“The former industrial site on Watson Road has stood empty for many years, so we are delighted that our efforts to encourage housing development is moving forward.”

Being built by MCI Developments and benefiting from a Homes England grant, the properties are expected to be completed during Autumn 2019.

The development comes after Muir last year announced it would increase the number of new homes it builds by up to 75% each year as it underlines its commitment to help tackle the UK’s housing crisis.

Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Muir Group Housing Association is based in Chester with offices in Blackpool, and manages more than 390 properties in the Blackpool local authority area, including 362 rented, as well as shared ownership and supported living homes.
