MINI-BEASTS GET THE BETTER OF VANDALS ON MUIR ESTATE THANKS TO CHILDREN’S SUPPORT

SCHOOLCHILDREN are hoping new mini-beasts will help keep vandals away from a community garden they’ve been caring for.

The children at Darnhall Primary School in Winsford had taken the initiative by breathing new life into the garden on Muir’s nearby Glebe Green estate, where many of them live.

But after they, teachers and support staff spent time clearing and decorating it in recent weeks, vandals ruined the hard work that had put it back at the heart of the community.

GardenHowever, the disappointed children were quick to respond, receiving a kind donation from supermarket retailer ASDA to help them get their garden back on track.

“The school’s resource provision class have really taken ownership of the garden,” Muir Tenancy Services Officer, Robert Burrows said.

“It was very upsetting for them to see what the vandals had done, but the children have been quick to act.

The school put a message on the Winsford Community Forum on Facebook to see if anyone had any information on who the culprits were.

Garden “It was picked up by Asda who very kindly donated a car-load of equipment and replacement items, as well as £75 through a collection on the checkouts.”

GardenThe school, in partnership with Muir, ASDA and Winsford Police, arranged an action day at the garden which includes a ‘hedgehog hotel’, an area reserved for mini-beasts such as bees and bugs, and flower beds with a number of gnomes admiring the children’s work.

“The area has been transformed from an overgrown wasteland to a community garden that the community can be proud of thanks to the efforts of these dedicated children,” Robert added.
