CAPTIVATING YOUNG MUIR ARTIST LIGHTS UP AWARD-WINNING CULTURAL ARTS VENUE

A TALENTED young artist from a Muir Supported Housing scheme has stunned a new award-winning cultural venue with her wonderful work.

21-year-old Ellie has been accepted onto a young leader’s programme at Chester’s Storyhouse arts centre after her beautiful designs captivated course mentors.

Artwork Ellie has been benefiting from life at Muir’s Cornwall House scheme as she overcomes her battle against anxiety and depression.

The Cornwall House project manager, Georgina Millington, explained how Ellie’s artistic talents have never been in doubt ever since she first put her coloured pens to paper after moving there little more than a year ago.

“We quickly realised she had an amazing artistic flair, which helps her channel some of the overwhelming emotions she feels,” Georgina said.

Artwork“We contacted The Bren Project who introduced Ellie to Storyhouse. They were blown away by Ellie’s talent and asked her to start designing ideas to illustrate children’s books.”

The Bren Project is a charitable organisation based in Chester offering people with learning disabilities and autism the opportunity to experience supportive work placements throughout Cheshire.

After bringing her talents to the attention of the Storyhouse, Ellie is looking forward to the young leader’s course which will provide insight into marketing, event production, customer service, backstage, fundraising and activity sessions and practical opportunities for personal and professional progression.

Resident The course will provide Ellie with a fantastic next step with which to enhance her life skills.

“We have supported Ellie through the complexities of living by herself for the first time, being responsible for her own bills, living safely and within the expectations of a tenancy,” Georgina said.

“We are all very proud of her development and what she is achieving.”
