Residents are quids in after winning Muir's 'What Makes My Home My Own' competition

TWO Muir residents are quids in after entering Muir’s October ‘What Makes My Home My Own’ competition.

Michael Cash, a Muir Group Housing Association resident in Warrington, pocketed the £50 top prize.

And Blackpool resident, Stephen Harrison, also got lucky, receiving £20 as the competition’s runner-up.

To enter, residents simply had to take a picture of what means home to them, accompanied with a brief description and the hashtag #mymuirhome.

Michael Cash Michael, who posted a picture of himself by his garden (right), said in his description: “What makes my home to me is a safe, secure and warm house within a good neighbourhood and I am very thankful for what I've got.

“Exercise is key and there is a lot for me to do in and around the garden.”

Muir’s judges agreed that 59-year-old Michael’s appreciation of having a home was clear, as was his sense of self and belonging to his community while being passionate about the garden he cherishes.

“Excellent access to the home must be a priority as sometimes it is difficult if you are of a certain age,” Michael told Muir.

“I do a lot of gardening which keeps me active.

“Keeping the garden clean and looking good is hard work but it has to be done and the garden benefits from my hard work.

“On the whole, I am very happy with the layout and supervision of my home, and will be for many years,” Michael added.

Stephen Harrison garden The competition’s runner-up, 55-year-old Stephen, also impressed the judges with a picture of his wonderfully enticing ‘secret’ garden (left).

“I love my home,” Stephen said in his description.

“I've lived in it since 2009 and am very grateful that I have a roof over my head.

“What makes my home a home is my garden.”

Judges were captivated by the picture of Stephen’s enchanting garden, which reminded them of an edition cover of the children’s book ‘The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Talking of his garden, Stephen said: “My friend and I have spent a lot of time and money on it but it has been well worth it.”

Both received this prices in the form of supermarket vouchers ready for their Christmas shopping.

Muir Group Housing Association would like to thank all residents who took part.
