BRITISH Prime Minister, Theresa May, ‘shares Muir’s vision’ for affordable housing after announcing a £2bn fund to trigger new homes, an Association Director has said.

Theresa May last week became the first serving Prime Minister to speak at the National Housing Federation’s Annual Summit, promising to help associations, like Muir, “build the right homes in the right places”.

Muir’s own ‘Building New Homes’ strategy outlines plans to deliver up to 75% more new affordable homes each year to help tackle the nation’s housing crisis.

Theresa May NHF And Mrs May encouraged housing associations to generate such developments while shaking the stigma of social housing and protecting tenants.

“For many people, a certain stigma still clings to social housing,” Mrs May said.

“I want to see social housing that is so good people are proud to call it their home.

“I can announce that new longer-term partnerships will be opened up to the most ambitious housing associations through a ground-breaking £2bn initiative.

“We are doing all we can to get more of the right homes built in the right places, so we can help more people on to the housing ladder.”

Under the scheme, associations will be able to apply for funding stretching as far ahead as 2028/29.

Sam Scott Sam Scott, Muir’s Executive Director of Operations (left), also attended the NHF’s annual two-day summit conference and welcomed the financial support provided by the Government as Muir embarks on its ambitious Building New Homes strategy.

“Our strategy underlines our commitment to building new affordable homes and the Government announcement comes at a key time,” Sam said.

“Muir welcomes Mrs May’s comments and her recognition that housing associations have a huge role to play in tackling the housing crisis and providing affordable living.

“We are delighted the Prime Minister shares our vision for developing new affordable housing.

“Everyone at Muir is working hard to make that vision a reality and offer quality homes and support to our tenants of today, and tomorrow.”
