INSPIRATIONAL MUIR RESIDENT SHORTLISTED FOR TENANT OF THE YEAR AWARD

WHEN Daniel Pendlebury was shortlisted for this year’s Northern Housing Awards, Muir was extremely proud to see his inspirational achievements recognised beyond the Association.

A Muir Group Housing Association resident for seven years, Daniel works tirelessly to help others and improve services for vulnerable people in his community.

He does it all with unassuming modesty, but has a huge positive impact on the lives of many people where he lives.

On May 23rd, he will attend the prestigious awards ceremony in Manchester where he has been shortlisted in the Tenant of the Year category after Muir made them aware of everything he does.

His incredible ‘Northwich in Need’ group has captured the imagination and become a bedrock for support in the area; helping 23 homeless people off the streets of the town since founding the volunteer group in 2016.

Assisting them with benefit, job and housing applications, he helps motivate them and organises food distribution for vulnerable people in the area six-nights-a week.

DanielOne person Daniel helped off the streets was Chris, who now volunteers with Northwich in Needs himself after being inspired by Daniel’s efforts.

“Daniel’s help has been phenomenal, he’s had a huge positive impact on my life,” Chris said.

“I genuinely don’t think I’d be here now if it wasn’t for Daniel.

“He provided me with everything I needed to be self-sufficient on the streets, then helped me find permanent accommodation and regain my independence.

“It’s mind-blowing to see what he does for people.”

Daniel helps to strengthen community spirit and a sense of ‘place’ in Northwich, also hosting a twice-weekly online community radio show on Dane Sound Radio – The Dan and Lee show.

Alongside partner Lee, Daniel interviews guests such as Foodbank volunteers, Police Community Support Officers, Abuse support groups, Samaritans and more, signposting services and vital information that can make real differences to people’s lives, including youngsters faced with school exams.

The Royal British Legion secretary coordinated a two-week long exhibition and events calendar at Peckforton Castle, helped organise a fundraising First World War play.

DanielArranging fundraisers such as community comedy nights and Christmas Markets have helped fund initiatives such as a new scout hut for local youngsters, and his efforts to reduce social isolation at Christmas have seen him provide vulnerable people with hats and gloves as well as coordinating the collation and distribution of more than 1,000 giftboxes to communities in and around Northwich.

He helps new residents to settle in the area by providing friendship and support, and selflessly aspires to help anyone he can along with the volunteers from his Northwich in Need movement – while also becoming part of Muir’s National Residents Group in 2018.

Emma Robinson, Muir’s Housing Services Manager said: “As a Muir resident, Daniel epitomises all the Association’s values – Caring, Responsive, Passionate, Inclusive, Dynamic, Honest, and many more.

“His selfless and insatiable community spirit restores people’s pride, energise lives and provide foundations for better futures.

“We are both delighted and very proud to see him shortlisted for in the ‘Tenant of the Year’ category for the forthcoming Northern Housing Awards.

“Daniel’s efforts are truly inspirational and this is recognition that is so very richly deserved.”
