‘I’D HAVE BEEN REALLY STRUGGLING WITHOUT THE HELP OF MUIR’S TENANCY SUSTAINMENT TEAM’

A RESIDENT says Muir’s support has taken pressure off his financial worries.

Jeremy received help from Muir’s Tenancy Sustainment Team, who supported him to access benefits that increased his income; and get energy advice.

He says he’s now feeling more confident and urged other residents to make use of the support available.

“Without the help of the tenancy sustainment service I’d have been really struggling and worried about losing my home,” Jeremy said.

“If my income didn’t change with the help of Daniel, I feel I would have still been using the foodbank.

“The pressure has now been taken off a little and I feel more confident.

“Other people have also commented on this which makes me feel good.

Muir staff and resident “I’ve been a Muir resident for almost 40 years and didn’t realise this extra help was available.

“I’d encourage other residents to use it too.”

How we helped...

Muir Tenancy Sustainment Officer, Daniel Turner, was able to help Jeremy access more benefits, which he said: “has significantly increased his monthly income”.

Daniel also helped him apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment via his local Council to help with the bedroom tax and apply for a free local bus pass, enabling him to visit family more easily.

“I spoke to the local foodbank and arranged for regular deliveries to help Jeremy while his new benefits come through.

“I also let him know about other organisations who can help – Pocket Power and Pennysmart can support with other expenses including social water and broadband tariffs.

“We looked into ways he can receive support from energy providers too, to help with these costs.

“Jeremy feels much more positive about his rent payments now and the extra income means he shouldn’t worry about falling into arrears.
