Exciting new Muir development edges towards completion

AN EXCITING new development of five Muir homes remains on course for completion in early 2017.

The development of five two-bedroom bungalows at Roman Way in Godmanchester, Huntingdon, has already made history after Muir reported the find of several ancient artefacts at the site earlier this year.

And while archaeologists have hailed the discoveries dating back to Neolithic and Roman times, the Cambridgeshire build will help welcome a new age when the properties are handed over in February next year.

Sarah Lawton-James, Assistant Director of Assets and Growth at Muir Group Housing Association said: “This is a really special development for Muir, not least because of the new homes we are creating, but also because of the special pieces of history that have been uncovered at the site.

“We are very much looking forward to its completion and we feel these desirable properties will help fulfil a need for more bungalows in the Godmanchester area.

“Muir is delighted to be delivering these homes.”

Benefiting from grant funding by the Homes and Communities Agency, the build is being completed by T Balfe Construction, and will compliment Muir’s existing McCartney House scheme nearby.

For affordable rent, the bungalows will be allocated through Choice Based Lettings.

A fragment of Roman roof tile, four fragments of Medieval peg tiles and five fragments of unidentified ceramic building materials were all discovered at the site in March this year when Allen Archaeology performed a series of archaeological evaluation trenches.

Three pieces of Medieval pottery, a 17th Century clay pipe stem, a fragment of copper alloy plate and six fragments of animal bone, including one of Roe Deer metatarsal, were also found along with two worked flints; one of which can be dated to the Neolithic/Bronze Age.

Finds

The items have since been donated to Cambridgeshire County Council.
